EHD strives for the advancement of equality and respect for human dignity in Pakistan and around the world through human rights and rule of law implementation, awareness, educating and capacity building programs, mobilization of the communities through advocacy initiatives. Respect and sustainable development for all.
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE of EHD
In 2004 , a group of activists and lawyers with different social and political background with high qualification EHD (Encourage the Human Development) is a not-for-profit organization registered (in 2007) under Registration and control Ordinance Act 1961 with the expert and highly motivated and educated founder members, most of its members are senior advocates, high court judges and human rights activists are on board. Board members are also the member of different networks; most important is DVC which is purely concerned with the bounded labour. EHD works for deprived communities on a value of respect for human rights with emphasis on the rule of law, advocacy, supporting grassroots, gender mainstreaming collective initiatives, human and institutional developments, work in disaster areas, empowering them to pursue their own development plans, in time availability of justice, negotiates law implementation with all tiers of governance and also demonstrates ways they can take independent initiatives to enhance their well-being.
It works for rural deprived communities on a value of sustainable development with a rights-based approach supporting local self initiatives, human and institutional development, and providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities enabling them to define their own development agenda, negotiates its implementation with all tiers of governance and also demonstrates ways they can take independent initiatives to enhance their well-being.
Organizational programmatic framework seeks to strengthen social, political and economic asset base of the local community also empowering them to creatively interact with public and private institutions and influence them to formulate pro-poor policies and regulatory frameworks with an aim of achieving the goal of sustainable development.
